Well, I did it. Earlier this year I went out on my own as a full-time freelance graphic designer. I left the comfort of a full-time job with fantastic perks for a world of uncertainty and risk – and you know what? It has been awesome.
I had been debating making this move for months – it was one of the most difficult decisions I ever had to make. (I have an irrational fear of quitting things.) Then I ripped off the Band-Aid and went all in.
When it came down to it, there was actually little risk with the career move. I had plenty of savings, supportive friends and family, and I was still on great terms with my former employer (holler, INK PR!). What was the worst that could happen? Freelancing and I don’t jive? I need to find another job? Not bad.
They say we regret the things we don’t do more than the things we do. That was the real motivation I needed – if I gave it a shot and failed… hey, at least I tried, right?
This blog is about the journey into creative entrepreneurship. I’ll talk about lessons learned, my approach to business and client work, where I get inspiration and plenty more. Check back weekly for new posts.
